- estimation tools for the transmittance, reflection, and absorption of CMB signal and for the emission of HWP itself, 06 Nov 2018 (Hiro)

  • 20180926_loss_emission_v2.xlsx (revised on 8 Nov. 2018)
  • tr_ave, ref_ave, abs_ave: band averaged transmittance, reflectance, and absorption
  • P_tr, P_ref, P_abs: the power of CMB transmitted/reflected/absorbed by a HWP (integrated over the frequency range)
  • P_th: the power of a HWP due to its thermal emission
  • The assumptions are:
    • single flat plate w/o AR
    • frequency from 140 to 161 GHz
    • considering only normal rays to the plate
    • considering multiple reflection of thermal emission as well as CMB signal
    • loss tangent is defined as the ratio of the imaginary part of the permittivity to the real part of the permittivity
    • you can choose arbitrary values for thickness, loss tangent, the real part of a refractive index, and the HWP temperature
      • if you adjust a refractive index to be ~1, it will corresponds to a nearly perfect AR case
    • the columns G to J in the summary tab in Watts per square meter per steradian
  • derivation (Hiro's note, may be hard to read...)
